Canada Water’s recent redevelopment has made the area suburban in character, but now planners are thinking about ways to make more of its potential, with plans for a town core that features more shopping, leisure and housing for a fast-growing part of London.
This masterplan covers a 20 year-long period- so what should planners do to manage change for a large area? In addition to managing stakeholders and the expectations of the community, there are other factors that pile on complexity, such as changes to the economic climate and land ownership to name just two of them. Then there is the dilemma of being fixed vs flexible, as planners need to keep to a central vision whilst also keeping deliverability and viability in mind.
